3 Reasons NOT to Hire a Website Developer (and 1 alternative you should try)
A question we get a lot here at Slope Tech from clients is:
“Do I really need to hire a website developer?”
The answer varies depending on the situation but more often than not, it's a resounding NO! Let's jump into the 3 reasons you do NOT need a website developer/designer.

TLDR? Jump right to our alternative solution.
Websites are easy to create.
Nowadays, a website is not a difficult thing to create. As long as you have basic computer skills, you can most likely get a website up and running pretty quickly. There are tons of easy to use platforms that you can get started with in minutes (check out our comparison of the 5 most popular).
Whatever platform you choose, we estimate that someone with no experience can get a respectable website up and running in around 15 hours give or take. Of course, it all depends on your computer experience, what platform you choose, whether or not you already have a domain name registered, if you have a color scheme picked out, and a logo, and high quality graphics and images ready to go. For us at slope tech, we build 3 page websites on average in less than 3 hours, given that we get all our assets ready to go beforehand. Check out some of our work.
Of course, this doesn't factor in more advanced services & additions to your website; like SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Hiring a good web developer or designer is expensive.
A truly custom website from a veritable, local development firm can cost thousands of dollars. You just can’t be sure if you are getting your money's worth. There are cheaper options you could always take a look on Fivrr or Upwork and find someone (likely offshore) who promises a 5 page website with next day delivery for just $150, but you know that the website you get will probably be a pre-built template that they copy and paste for each customer. Here at Slope Tech, we’ve helped multiple clients who’ve gone this route and were disappointed with the results. If your plan is to spend less than $1000 dollars on a full website build you won’t get what you're looking for, and you’ll be left with more problems than you started with.
You want to be hands-on,
Because at the end of the day, it will be YOU who has to deal with your website on a day to day basis.

To have someone else build a website for you may sound great and save you lots of time, but once they hand it over to you, you’ll still have to learn whatever platform they used. If they didn’t use a beginner-friendly platform, you could be left stranded with a site you can’t update or manage yourself. Or worse, you could be forced to pay the developer more down the line for updates and new pages. What you hoped was a one time expense, may become a long term drain on your resources.
Conclusion
If these 3 reasons to not hire a website developer spoke to you then you are not alone. You shouldn’t have to pay a company thousands of dollars to create something you aren’t 100% sure about.
